Honest thoughts on life in Oswego

Hey, The median home value here is around $319,000, which seems about average. Poverty rate is 1.3%, which is pretty low. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Highland area are underrated. Kids love it here.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Highland for 13 years. Moved from San Diego for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is solid. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Highland schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Chain restaurants dominate. Bugs and humidity in summer. And traffic can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 8/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I'm a real estate agent and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. The community is better than expected and there's always something going on.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Old Town. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in consulting. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 14 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..
