The good and bad of living in Oswego

Curious what people think. Rent is about $1,823/month for a decent place. It's a a smaller city city with about 35,463 people. Median household income is $119,881, which feels pretty solid for the area. Crime rate is something to consider -Oswego sits at 64.2 per 100K. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to.

Pros:
- Friendly people
- Low crime in most areas
- Easy commute
- Strong sense of community

Cons:
- Rising rent prices
- Sprawl everywhere
- Lack of diversity
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Limited cultural events
What do you all think? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. I've been living here for 12 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The healthcare is decent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Definitely worth checking out..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I genuinely enjoy living here. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it exceeded my expectations.

Came here for weather and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The community vibe is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from San Diego about 8 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are pricey, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Hope this helps!.
