Is Ottawa good for remote workers?

Median household income is $64,655, which feels about average for the area. Poverty rate is 9.7%, which is pretty low. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. What would you do? The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a project manager, 25, moved here 14 years ago from Denver. I've lived in Highland and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Can feel isolated
3. The community vibe situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for singles. average vibes, walkable.
- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely excellent and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Springfield) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
