Weekend activities in Ottawa?

Poverty rate is 9.7%, which is pretty low. The unemployment rate is 1.4%, which is pretty low. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Let me know your thoughts. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want public transit, then yeah this place is great. But if community vibe matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Midtown. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in government. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Hope this helps!.

We moved here with our family and it's exactly what I was looking for. Schools in Midtown area are solid. Kids love it here.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in East for 1 years. Moved from Charlotte for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
education is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. East schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Limited entertainment options. And outdoor recreation can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 7/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've been in Maple Ridge for 2 years. Moved from Salt Lake City for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is solid. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
marketing is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is improving - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Maple Ridge schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Can feel isolated. Limited entertainment options. And cost of living can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 7/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 41, moved here 13 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in Eastside and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Friendly community, easy to meet people
3. Decent public transit for the size
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Can feel isolated
3. The community vibe situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for families. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $90K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

I've been in North for 15 years. Moved from Phoenix for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. North schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Can feel isolated. And dating scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 9/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Cedar Grove. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in real estate. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
