Anyone else feel this way? I work in finance and Crime rate is something to consider — Overland Park sits at 178.6 per 100K. Rent is about $1,455/month for a decent place. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Diverse dining options
- The community vibe scene is solid
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 3 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I work in hospitality here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is hit or miss. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 4 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong job market in several industries
- The pet-friendliness scene is tough
The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Hope this helps!.

I've been living here for 1 years and I'd say I genuinely enjoy living here. The dating scene is pretty good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Phoenix about 15 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are reasonable, gas is underrated.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in North. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in legal. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Asian.
