The unemployment rate is 2.9%, which is pretty low. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Would love some local perspective. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Downtown. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from Denver about 11 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good healthcare facilities
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Rising rent and home prices
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are established, gas is solid.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
