Life in Owensboro as a young professional

Hi all, Median household income is $53,295, which feels on the lower side for the area. Homes are going for about $162,900 on average. Household incomes average around $53,295 in Owensboro. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Pros:
- Easy commute
- Good healthcare facilities
- Walkable downtown
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Sprawl everywhere
- Lack of diversity
- Limited cultural events
Has anyone dealt with this? The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Used to live on the Maple Ridge side, now on the Highland side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Atlanta about 10 years ago. The main reasons were family and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good airport with direct flights
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are pricey, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Happy to answer more specific questions..
