Hi all, I grew up here but left for a while. Rent is about $986/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 59--F, so the weather is moderate. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Am I wrong here?

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 7 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Four distinct seasons
- The food scene scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
