Hey everyone, I'm a teacher here and It's a a mid-size city city with about 201K people. Homes are going for about $617,800 on average. Crime rate is something to consider — Oxnard sits at 342.6 per 100K. Household incomes average around $93,372 in Oxnard. Rent is about $1,962/month for a decent place. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. Am I overthinking this? Appreciate any input. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Meadowbrook for 12 years. Moved from Baltimore for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Meadowbrook schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Can feel isolated. Limited entertainment options. And food scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 7/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want pet-friendliness, then yeah this place is great. But if safety matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

As someone who grew up here, I genuinely enjoy living here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. public transit used to be much developing but now it's improving.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 12 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into running, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..
