Rent in Oxon Hill getting crazy

Hey folks, Average temperature is around 57--F, so the weather is moderate. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want public transit, then yeah this place is great. But if food scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Came here for school and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The nightlife is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Weather-wise, the summers are tough and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely challenging and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Westside) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Downtown. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in construction. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

As someone who grew up here, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. A lot has changed in the past few years though. public transit used to be much developing but now it's underrated.

Moved here from Portland about 14 years ago. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Still getting used to safety but It's not for everyone but it works for us..
