First post here. I've been here for 20 years and You can expect to pay around $2,300 for rent here. Median household income is $102,540, which feels pretty solid for the area. Crime rate is something to consider -Oyster Bay sits at 22.0 per 100K. Homes are going for about $634,600 on average. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. What do you all think? Appreciate any input. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

I've lived in West for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Four distinct seasons
- The healthcare scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely challenging and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Eastside) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The traffic is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
