Household incomes average around $36,902 in Oyster Creek. Crime rate is something to consider -Oyster Creek sits at 1,282.1 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 4.2%, which is about average. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in East. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to Raleigh it's average.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Boston about 3 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited high-paying job options
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are established, gas is improving.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. No regrets on my end..

I'm a pharmacist and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. The community is tough and there's always something going on.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely better than expected and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Uptown) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
