Been meaning to ask this. Poverty rate is 16.9%, which is higher than I expected. With a population of 26,894, Paducah is a smaller city. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in The Heights. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

I've lived in South for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The traffic scene is tough
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Nightlife is limited
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely challenging and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Midtown) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is walkability. it exceeded my expectations. Worth doing your research before committing.
