Housing in Pahala compared to Indianapolis

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm single, late 30s, and It's a a small town city with about 1,785 people. Average temperature is around 62--F, so the weather is moderate. With a population of 1,785, Pahala is a small town. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Am I wrong here? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 10 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Oak Park side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely challenging and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in Sunset area are challenging. Kids love it here.

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 7 years here, that's my honest assessment.

As someone who grew up here, I genuinely enjoy living here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. nightlife used to be much manageable but now it's solid.
