Anyone regret moving to Painesville?

Hey, The unemployment rate is 3.8%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $957/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider -Painesville sits at 249.7 per 100K. Homes are going for about $151,400 on average. The weather takes some getting used to. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Any advice would be great. Thanks! The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Fairview. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in tech. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

As someone who grew up here, I'm still on the fence after all this time. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much competitive but now it's better than expected.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 53, moved here 7 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in Downtown and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Can feel isolated
3. The dating scene situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for remote workers. average vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.
