I've lived in Springfield for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The job market scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Bugs and humidity in summer
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
