Couple moving to Palatine from out of state

Hello, You can expect to pay around $1,467 for rent here. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Has anyone dealt with this? Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Nashville about 6 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are established, gas is better than expected.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is nightlife. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in The Heights for 9 years. Moved from Austin for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
construction is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. The Heights schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not a lot of cultural diversity. Far from beaches/mountains. And pet-friendliness can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 6/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
