Worst things about Palestine nobody talks about

Hi all, Military spouse here. Crime rate is something to consider -Palestine sits at 548.1 per 100K. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Thoughts? Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Springfield for 15 years. Moved from Phoenix for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. manufacturing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is improving - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Springfield schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Chain restaurants dominate. Bugs and humidity in summer. And weather can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 9/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is housing market. I love the pace of life here. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 5 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are pricey, gas is pretty good.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Downtown for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good internet infrastructure
- The nightlife scene is decent

The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for couples. Definitely worth checking out..

I've been in Midtown for 15 years. Moved from Seattle for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. marketing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Midtown schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Bugs and humidity in summer. And housing market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 5/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Austin about 10 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good healthcare facilities
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are affordable, gas is excellent.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Bought a house here in 2016 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone about the same since then.
