I grew up here but left for a while. Homes are going for about $248,000 on average. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Used to live on the North side, now on the Riverside side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely decent and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Riverside) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Sunset for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions
- The public transit scene is solid
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Chain restaurants dominate
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. No regrets on my end..

Came here for retirement and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The school system is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The healthcare is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
