Freelancing from Palm Springs -experience?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm single, late 50s, and Median household income is $71,979, which feels about average for the area. The unemployment rate is 4.1%, which is about average. The median home value here is around $567,300, which is pretty steep. Rent is about $1,473/month for a decent place. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value traffic, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely solid and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Old Town) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from LA about 3 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are pricey, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Downtown for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Four distinct seasons
- The cultural scene scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
