Biggest downsides of living in Palmdale?

Curious what people think. Military spouse here. The median home value here is around $435,300, which is pretty steep. Household incomes average around $81,151 in Palmdale. You can expect to pay around $1,736 for rent here. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. TIA! Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Came here for family and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The community vibe is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I work in retail here and it's exactly what I was looking for. The job market for my field is excellent. No regrets on my end..

Used to live on the Riverside side, now on the Greenfield side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in West. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in retail. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is challenging in most areas.

The food scene here is tough. Tons of great Asian places. I have mixed feelings honestly.

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is job market. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..
