Longtime lurker here, Military spouse here. With a population of 1,271, Palmyra is a small town. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Minneapolis about 10 years ago. The main reasons were school and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is average.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

As someone who grew up here, I love the pace of life here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. food scene used to be much reasonable but now it's decent.
