Hey, I'm retired and It's a a smaller city city with about 67,231 people. Rent is about $3,328/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 3.2%, which is pretty low. With a population of 67,231, Palo Alto is a smaller city. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. What are your go-to spots? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 6 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

Public transit is surprisingly good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's been a really good experience overall.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in East. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in tech. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Korean.
Hope this helps!.

I've been here 12 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
