Palo Alto job market vs Pittsburgh

Hi all, I've been here for 20 years and Median household income is $220,408, which feels pretty solid for the area. Poverty rate is 3.2%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $2,000,001 on average. Average temperature is around 59--F, so the weather is moderate. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Thoughts? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 12 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've lived in North for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The safety scene is tough

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for couples. Hope this helps!.

As someone who grew up here, it's improved dramatically in recent years. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much manageable but now it's improving.
