Things Palo Alto needs to improve

I relocated for work and Household incomes average around $220,408 in Palo Alto. Average temperature is around 59--F, so the weather is moderate. Median household income is $220,408, which feels pretty solid for the area. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Am I overthinking this? The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Minneapolis about 4 years ago. The main reasons were weather and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good healthcare facilities

Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are established, gas is pretty good.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 10 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's not perfect but it works for me.
