Hey folks, Military spouse here. Median household income is $236,250, which feels pretty solid for the area. Rent is about $3,501/month for a decent place. The median home value here is around $2,000,001, which is pretty steep. The unemployment rate is 1.3%, which is pretty low. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. What are your go-to spots? Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

I've lived in Lakewood for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The food scene scene is decent
The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Road conditions need improvement
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
