Anyone else feel this way? I relocated for work and Homes are going for about $736,000 on average. Median household income is $139,707, which feels pretty solid for the area. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. What would you do?

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 12 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in Maple Ridge for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The food scene scene is tough
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for couples. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely challenging and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Eastside) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Minneapolis about 10 years ago. The main reasons were school and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Strong job market in several industries
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are pricey, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. No regrets on my end..
