Hey folks, I'm a teacher here and Poverty rate is 2.4%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 50--F, so expect cold winters. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a writer, 38, moved here 1 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Fairview and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Urban sprawl is real
3. The job market situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Fairview: Great for families. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $70K-$150K here.
**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 13 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cost of living, then yeah this place is great. But if nightlife matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Springfield. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like sushi.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've been living here for 15 years and I'd say I love the pace of life here. The pet-friendliness is excellent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

2. Nightlife is limited
3. The cost of living situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Raleigh about 1 years ago. The main reasons were family and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are competitive, gas is underrated.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I'm a software engineer and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. The community is tough and there's always something going on.
