Moving to Parker for work -advice?

Hey everyone, I'm a teacher here and Homes are going for about $852,000 on average. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Bought a house here in 2019 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a teacher who relocated here from Dallas about 4 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Close to major attractions
- Strong sense of community
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is excellent.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. No regrets on my end..

I work in tech here and it's exactly what I was looking for. The job market for my field is decent. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely decent and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Riverside) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 7 years here, that's my honest assessment.
