Housing in Parkersburg compared to Raleigh

First post here. I relocated for work and You can expect to pay around $746 for rent here. It's a a smaller city city with about 29,461 people. Rent is about $746/month for a decent place. With a population of 29,461, Parkersburg is a smaller city. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Nice parks and trails
- Good schools
- Diverse community
- Easy commute

Cons:
- Hot summers
- Cold winters
- High property taxes
- Far from major airports
- Chain restaurants dominate
Has anyone dealt with this? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Tampa about 13 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Close to major attractions
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are pricey, gas is improving.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've been living here for 13 years and I'd say the quality of life is solid. The weather is pretty good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..
