Homes are going for about $251,100 on average. The median home value here is around $251,100, which seems about average. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Is this normal for Parkville?

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it was the best decision I ever made. Compared to Portland it's solid.

My experience has been mostly positive. I genuinely enjoy living here. The only thing I'd watch out for is housing market. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a chef, 39, moved here 5 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in Cedar Grove and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Strong job market in several industries
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity
3. The nightlife situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Cedar Grove: Great for remote workers. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$70K here.
**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value weather, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely challenging and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (West) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've been living here for 13 years and I'd say it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor recreation is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall Feel free to reach out with questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Fairview) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in North for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Four distinct seasons
- The school system scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Chain restaurants dominate
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I'm a social worker and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. The community is hit or miss and there's always something going on.
