Longtime lurker here, Poverty rate is 18.0%, which is higher than I expected. Homes are going for about $355,400 on average. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. What are your go-to spots? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. Used to live on the Eastside side, now on the Uptown side. Completely different vibe. it was the best decision I ever made.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Cedar Grove. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in finance. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. safety used to be much affordable but now it's better than expected.

I've lived in Uptown for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong sense of community
- The cost of living scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Road conditions need improvement
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. Happy to answer more specific questions..

People: Generally challenging. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Bought a house here in 2023 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone up a bit since then.
