Relocating to Parlier, CA -pros and cons?

Anyone else feel this way? I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Poverty rate is 27.1%, which is higher than I expected. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Is this normal for Parlier? Thanks in advance!

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much competitive but now it's solid.

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Minneapolis about 2 years ago. The main reasons were family and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are competitive, gas is better than expected.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Happy to answer more specific questions..

My experience has been mostly positive. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The only thing I'd watch out for is job market. Other than that, Definitely worth checking out..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a writer, 44, moved here 13 years ago from Dallas. I've lived in Meadowbrook and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Road conditions need improvement
2. Limited shopping options
3. The cultural scene situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Meadowbrook: Great for remote workers. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Dallas, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $60K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 7 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

I've lived in East for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good internet infrastructure
- The community vibe scene is improving

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Winters are long and cold

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
