OK so I'm a college student here and The suburbs are where most families end up. What do you all think?

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Eastside. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in marketing. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
No regrets on my end..

I work in retail here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is tough. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in Westside for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good healthcare facilities
- The walkability scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Maple Ridge for 3 years. Moved from Minneapolis for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Maple Ridge schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Urban sprawl is real. Limited shopping options. And walkability can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 7/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely solid and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Springfield) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Can feel isolated.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2015 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Tampa about 9 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Diverse dining options
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are established, gas is tough.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I'm a marketing manager and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. The community is tough and there's always something going on.
