From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Bought a house here in 2015 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone about the same since then.

I've lived in West for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
- The walkability scene is tough

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Rising rent and home prices

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Used to live on the Eastside side, now on the South side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The pet-friendliness is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
