Hi all, I'm single, late 50s, and Rent is about $2,187/month for a decent place. The food scene here is surprisingly good. What do you all think? The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in West for 11 years. Moved from Baltimore for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.
**Employment:**
construction is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is solid - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. West schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Dating scene is rough. Homeless population growing downtown. And traffic can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 5/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. pet-friendliness used to be much affordable but now it's decent.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I genuinely enjoy living here. Internet is average in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Westside. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in retail. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like seafood.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Baltimore it's pretty good.

The food scene here is surprisingly good. Tons of great Mediterranean places. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.
