Hello, We're a young couple and It's a a mid-size city city with about 136K people. With a population of 136K, Pasadena is a mid-size city. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Is this normal for Pasadena? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Cedar Grove area are improving. Kids love it here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely decent and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (South) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is walkability. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it was the best decision I ever made. Definitely worth checking out..
