Rent in Pasadena getting crazy

Median household income is $103,778, which feels pretty solid for the area. The median home value here is around $1,045,000, which is pretty steep. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a chef who relocated here from Seattle about 7 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Nightlife is limited

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are stable, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Hope this helps!.

I've been living here for 11 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The walkability is average compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..
