Crime rate is something to consider -Pasadena sits at 1,338.5 per 100K. Median household income is $119,393, which feels pretty solid for the area. The median home value here is around $406,900, which is pretty steep. The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Am I overthinking this? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development. The city has invested a lot in new development. Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cultural scene, then yeah this place is great. But if housing market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

We moved here with our family and I genuinely enjoy living here. Schools in Springfield area are average. Kids love it here.

Bought a house here in 2024 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely average and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is safety. it exceeded my expectations. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Oak Park. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in construction. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Hope this helps!.

I've been living here for 4 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor recreation is pretty good compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..
