Hello, I'm originally from Nashville and The median home value here is around $406,500, which is pretty steep. Poverty rate is 22.0%, which is higher than I expected. Crime rate is something to consider -Passaic sits at 529.9 per 100K. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Thoughts? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 15 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want walkability, then yeah this place is great. But if weather matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Came here for quality of life and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The weather is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely underrated and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Road conditions need improvement.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
