Military spouse here. The median home value here is around $406,500, which is pretty steep. Median household income is $56,780, which feels about average for the area. Poverty rate is 22.0%, which is higher than I expected. You can expect to pay around $1,392 for rent here. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Would love some local perspective. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Midtown. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in education. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've been living here for 6 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The food scene is decent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Feel free to reach out with questions..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 9 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Bought a house here in 2024 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone about the same since then.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is pet-friendliness. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

Used to live on the Fairview side, now on the Old Town side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.
