The good and bad of living in Passaic

So, I'm a teacher here and You can expect to pay around $1,392 for rent here. Household incomes average around $56,780 in Passaic. Crime rate is something to consider -Passaic sits at 529.9 per 100K. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Pros:
- Nice parks and trails
- Walkable downtown
- Active local events

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Rising rent prices
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Homelessness issues downtown
Is this normal for Passaic? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'm a project manager and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. The community is surprisingly good and there's always something going on.

Public transit is pretty good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely excellent and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Uptown) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
