I work in finance and Poverty rate is 20.9%, which is higher than I expected. With a population of 158K, Paterson is a mid-size city. The median home value here is around $335,400, which seems about average. Homes are going for about $335,400 on average. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Has anyone dealt with this? TIA! Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is community vibe. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I love the pace of life here. Internet is hit or miss in most areas.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely underrated and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Midtown) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I work in engineering here and it's exactly what I was looking for. The job market for my field is hit or miss. No regrets on my end..

My experience has been mostly positive. it's not perfect but it works for me. The only thing I'd watch out for is pet-friendliness. Other than that, No regrets on my end..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want school system, then yeah this place is great. But if community vibe matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
