Raising a family in Paterson — thoughts?

First post here. I'm a 29-year-old accountant and You can expect to pay around $1,457 for rent here. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Thanks! The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Dallas about 9 years ago. The main reasons were family and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Four distinct seasons
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are reasonable, gas is pretty good.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Happy to answer more specific questions..
