Thinking about relocating to Paterson from Kansas City
Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Household incomes average around $53,766 in Paterson. Average temperature is around 55°F, so expect cold winters. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Any advice would be great. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Miami it's solid.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it exceeded my expectations. Internet is solid in most areas.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value weather, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely solid and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Westside) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Road conditions need improvement.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want nightlife, then yeah this place is great. But if traffic matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's been a really good experience overall.

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Sunset for 5 years. Moved from Dallas for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.
**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Can feel isolated. And outdoor recreation can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 8/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
