Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from San Diego about 14 years ago. The main reasons were weather and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Strong job market in several industries
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are wild, gas is tough.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Definitely worth checking out..

- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are stable, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Downtown. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in construction. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Indian.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Came here for school and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The school system is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is nightlife. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.
