Rent vs buy in Payson -what makes sense?

Curious what people think. It's a a small town city with about 16,494 people. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Any advice would be great. Cheers. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 7 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

I've lived in Springfield for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Affordable housing options
- The walkability scene is decent

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

We moved here with our family and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Schools in Downtown area are average. Kids love it here.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is outdoor recreation. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

Used to live on the Meadowbrook side, now on the Cedar Grove side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
