Things Payson needs to improve

Hello, Born and raised here. Homes are going for about $388,200 on average. You can expect to pay around $1,393 for rent here. With a population of 22,205, Payson is a small town. Median household income is $84,286, which feels pretty solid for the area. Household incomes average around $84,286 in Payson. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Pros:
- Low crime in most areas
- Good schools
- Low taxes
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons:
- Hot summers
- High property taxes
- Chain restaurants dominate
Would love some local perspective. The city has invested a lot in new development. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a accountant who relocated here from Phoenix about 5 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Affordable housing options
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are wild, gas is pretty good.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 10 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely improving and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Old Town for 6 years. Moved from Phoenix for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
legal is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Old Town schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Chain restaurants dominate. Homeless population growing downtown. And housing market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 6/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
