Random thought, Military spouse here. It's a a smaller city city with about 54,180 people. With a population of 54,180, Peabody is a smaller city. The median home value here is around $566,200, which is pretty steep. You can expect to pay around $1,902 for rent here. Average temperature is around 50--F, so expect cold winters. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development.
Pros:
- Diverse community
- Easy commute
- Strong sense of community
- Good internet infrastructure
- Good airport connections
Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Limited public transit
- Cold winters
- Sprawl everywhere
- Few job opportunities in some fields
What would you do? The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely underrated and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Fairview) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Seattle about 4 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are affordable, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've lived in Uptown for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Strong job market in several industries
- The outdoor recreation scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for families. Hope this helps!.

Bought a house here in 2022 and it exceeded my expectations. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Pittsburgh it's challenging.

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The walkability is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
