Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Am I overthinking this? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 12 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into running, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
